Best Time to Visit

The Chopta Tungnath Trek can be done almost year-round. For lush greenery and cool weather, visit from March to June. If you prefer snow trails and peaceful surroundings, go from October to December. Avoid monsoon (July-August) due to slippery paths.

Difficulty Level

The trek is Easy, making it ideal for beginners, families (kids above 7), or even senior citizens with moderate fitness. It’s a short but high-reward trek that doesn’t require prior trekking experience.

Quick Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Rishikesh to Chopta (approx. 210 km / 8–9 hours)

  •  Scenic drive through Uttarakhand hills to reach Chopta, the starting point of the trek.

Day 2: Acclimatization & local forest walk (optional)

  •  Rest day to acclimatize; explore Chopta’s forests and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Day 3: Trek to Tungnath Temple & Chandrashila Peak – return to Chopta

  •  Moderate trek to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple, and onward to Chandrashila Peak for panoramic sunrise views, then descend to Chopta.

Day 4: Buffer/rest day – Optional Sari village or Deoriatal Lake visit

  •  Free day for rest or optional short excursion to nearby Sari village or Deoriatal Lake.

Day 5: Drive back to Rishikesh

  •  Drive back to Rishikesh, marking the end of the trek.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Rishikesh to Chopta

Start early morning from Rishikesh, and drive along the Ganga and Mandakini rivers. Pass through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath. Reach Chopta by evening — a peaceful village tucked between forests and snow-capped peaks.

Day 2: Rest Day & Acclimatization

Spend the day adjusting to the altitude. You can take a short walk in the surrounding forest or simply relax and enjoy the crisp mountain air. Warm food, great views, and the Make My Hikes hospitality will make you feel at home.

Day 3: Trek to Tungnath & Chandrashila

Begin early to trek 3.5 km uphill to Tungnath Temple. The trail is paved and passes through scenic forests and meadows. After darshan at the temple, continue another 1.5 km to Chandrashila Peak. The summit rewards you with views of Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, and more. Descend back to Chopta by evening.

Day 4: Optional Exploration Day / Buffer Day

Relax at the camp, or visit Sari village and trek to Deoriatal Lake — another hidden gem with mountain reflections in its waters. This buffer day ensures flexibility and lets you soak in more local beauty.

Day 5: Drive back to Rishikesh

Bid goodbye to the mountains with memories of snow, temples, and tranquility. Reach Rishikesh by late evening. End your spiritual-adventure journey with a peaceful heart, all thanks to Make My Hikes.

  2. Meals: Nutritious vegetarian meals and eggs while on the trek.

  4. Permits & Entry Fees: All necessary forest and trek permits included.

  5. Medical Support: First aid medical kits, stretcher, and oxygen cylinder for emergencies.

  6. Trek Team: Mountaineering-qualified & experienced trek leader, guide, and support staff.

  7. Transportation: Transport from Dehradun to Sankri and return (as per itinerary).

  8. Mules/Porters: For carrying central/common luggage.
