The Kuari Pass Trek is one of the most popular treks in Uttarakhand, renowned for offering a picturesque journey through the Nanda Devi Sanctuary and providing panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the Indian Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Dunagiri, and Hathi Ghoda. The trek takes you through lush forests, alpine meadows, and isolated villages, and ends at the Kuari Pass, which offers mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks.
This trek is a wonderful mix of natural beauty and moderate challenge, ideal for trekkers who want to experience the charm of the Garhwal Himalayas. The route, which passes through dense oak and deodar forests, is well-marked and can be done in a span of 6 days. It offers a perfect escape for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The ideal time to do the Kuari Pass Trek is from December to March and May to June. The winter months offer a snow-covered wonderland, and the summer months are ideal for trekking, as the weather is cool and clear. The monsoon season is best avoided due to slippery trails and the risk of landslides.
The Kuari Pass Trek is classified as Moderate in difficulty, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced trekkers. The trek involves gradual ascents, moderate climbs, and some rocky paths. While it doesn’t involve technical climbing, the trek does take you to a high altitude, which may cause altitude sickness if you’re not properly acclimatized.
The journey begins early in the morning from Haridwar, where you’ll travel by road to Dhak. The drive is scenic, passing through winding mountain roads, rivers, and forests, with views of distant peaks. After reaching Dhak, you’ll rest and prepare for the trek.
The trek from Dhak to Tali is about 8 km and takes you through forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron. As you ascend, enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Tali is a beautiful campsite with wide-open meadows, perfect for camping and stargazing.
On the third day, you trek from Tali to Kuari Pass, which is about 6 km. As you ascend, you’ll be surrounded by dense alpine forests and meadows, and once you reach the pass, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views of the Nanda Devi and Trishul peaks. Spend time taking in the panoramic views and capturing the beauty of the surroundings.
After spending some time at Kuari Pass, you begin your descent back to Tali. The day’s trek is about 6 km. The descent is easier, and you can relax at the Tali campsite in the evening.
On the fifth day, the trek from Tali to Auli is about 5 km. Auli is a popular skiing destination, offering beautiful views of the Himalayas. Explore the area, take in the views, and enjoy the cool mountain air.
The final day involves trekking from Auli back to Dhak, and then taking a drive back to Haridwar. The trek is about 5 km, and the road journey back to Haridwar takes about 9–10 hours. After this memorable adventure, you’ll return with beautiful memories of the stunning Kuari Pass Trek.
