Nestled deep within the Garhwal Himalayas lies a hidden gem that turns into a snow-globe dreamland every winter — welcome to the Brahmatal Lake Trek, a route that offers breathtaking alpine views, frozen lakes, and a trail covered in sparkling white snow. Perfect for those looking to experience the magic of snow trekking, Brahmatal is a rare winter trek that balances natural beauty, peaceful trails, and rewarding views.
This legendary trail is believed to be the place where Lord Brahma meditated, hence the name “Brahmatal.” The trek begins through beautiful oak and rhododendron forests and slowly ascends to high-altitude meadows and open ridges, with panoramic views of Trishul, Nanda Ghunti, and other mighty Himalayan peaks. The highlight? The mystical Brahmatal Lake itself — frozen in winter, reflecting starlit skies at night.
With Make My Hikes, your journey is not just a trek but a thoughtfully curated experience. From warm hospitality in the chilly winds to guides who narrate local stories and traditions, they ensure every moment is smooth, safe, and soul-stirring. Whether you’re a first-time snow trekker or a seasoned mountain lover, Brahmatal offers the perfect blend of adventure, serenity, and snowy magic.
The best time to experience the Brahmatal Lake Trek is from mid-December to March, when the entire trail is covered in snow, and the frozen Brahmatal Lake reflects the beauty of the winter sky. If you want snow adventure, this is the time to go!
This trek is rated Easy to Moderate, making it great for beginners and families (kids above 10 years). While snow adds some challenge, the trail is gradual and well-paced. With proper gear and support from Make My Hikes, it’s a smooth ride for most hikers.
Start your journey early morning with a scenic drive through Devprayag and Karnaprayag valleys. The roads wind through pine forests and mountain rivers until you reach Lohajung — a quaint Himalayan village and your trek base.
Begin the trek through dense oak and rhododendron forests. After a 4–5 hour walk, you reach Bekaltal, a beautiful alpine lake. Camp overnight near the lake, surrounded by silence and nature.
As you climb higher, snow starts appearing. You pass through wide meadows and ridges with your first views of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. After 6–7 km, reach the surreal Brahmatal campsite — calm, snowy, and surrounded by peaks.
Start early to reach Brahmatal Top, the highest point of the trek (~12,250 ft). From here, enjoy 360° views of Himalayan ranges. Visit the frozen Brahmatal Lake, and take stunning photos. Return to camp by evening.
The trail winds back through forests and familiar snowy paths. Reach Lohajung by evening and stay in a warm guesthouse. Celebrate the end of your snowy adventure!
